Teen icon with The Box Tops, doyen of the indie scene in Memphis thanks to his work with Big Star and a storied solo career, and immortalized by The Replacements doing a song in his honor.  Alex Chilton’s loss is huge for indie music fans everywhere, and it’s especially sad since Big Star were supposed to play SXSW this week.  RIP.
